How to extend the service life of an axial fan?

Dec 03, 2024

Here are some ways to extend the service life of an axial fan:
Correct installation
Choose the installation location reasonably
Try to avoid installing in environments with drastic temperature changes, humidity, dust or corrosive gases. For example, do not install directly near a high-temperature industrial furnace or in a humid basement. If it must be used in such an environment, special protective measures should be considered, such as installing a protective housing, adding ventilation equipment, etc.
Ensure that there is enough space for air circulation at the installation location, and avoid installing the fan in a narrow, crowded space to prevent air flow obstruction from affecting the normal operation of the fan.
Ensure a firm and stable installation
During installation, ensure that the fan's fixed bracket or base is firm and reliable, and the screws, nuts and other connectors must be tightened. For large axial fans, reinforced brackets can be used, and regular inspections should be conducted to see if the installation parts are loose.
Daily use
Standardized operating procedures
Avoid frequent starting and stopping of the fan. Frequent starting and stopping will cause the motor to be subjected to a large current shock, which is easy to damage the motor windings and bearings. For example, in some occasions where intermittent ventilation is required, the fan speed can be adjusted instead of frequent starting and stopping.
Do not let the fan run overloaded for a long time. Use the fan according to its rated parameters to avoid exceeding its designed maximum air volume, air pressure and temperature range.
Pay attention to changes in the operating environment
Pay attention to changes in parameters such as temperature and humidity in the fan's operating environment. If the ambient temperature is too high, cooling measures may need to be taken, such as adding heat dissipation equipment; if the ambient humidity is too high, consider using dehumidification equipment or moisture-proofing the fan.
Regular maintenance
Cleaning and maintenance
Clean the fan's blades, housing, air inlet and outlet regularly. You can use a soft brush, vacuum cleaner or compressed air to remove impurities such as dust and oil. For oil stains on the blades, you can use a mild detergent to wipe. Generally speaking, in an environment with less dust, clean it every 3-6 months; in an environment with more dust, clean it at least once a month.
Be careful not to damage the fan's components when cleaning, especially the surface coating of the blades and the wiring of the motor.
Mechanical component inspection and maintenance
Check the status of the blades regularly to see if there are any deformations, cracks, looseness, etc. If the blades are slightly deformed, you can try to correct them; if the blades are seriously damaged, they need to be replaced in time.
Check the lubrication of the bearings. Add or replace lubricating oil every 3-6 months according to the type of bearings and the use environment. At the same time, check the wear of the bearings. If the bearings are found to be loose, make abnormal sounds, or are not flexible in rotation, the bearings should be replaced in time.
Check the running status of the motor, including the sound, temperature, vibration, etc. of the motor. Under normal circumstances, the motor runs smoothly, the temperature does not exceed 80-90℃ (depending on the motor power and design), and the vibration is small. If the motor is found to be abnormal, it should be repaired or replaced in time.
