What is a centrifugal fan?

Sep 30, 2024

Centrifugal fan is a ventilation device widely used in many fields such as industry and civil use.
Its structure mainly includes impeller, casing, air inlet, air outlet and motor. As the core component, the impeller is composed of multiple regularly shaped blades evenly distributed. These blades are exquisitely designed, and their number, degree of curvature, inclination angle and other factors are precisely calculated. The shape of the casing is usually volute, which can effectively collect and guide the airflow thrown out by the impeller. The air inlet is usually located in the center of the impeller, while the air outlet is located at the edge of the casing.
The working principle of the centrifugal fan is based on the centrifugal force in physics. When the motor drives the impeller to rotate at high speed, the air at the center of the impeller gains kinetic energy and generates centrifugal force under the drive of the impeller. Due to the action of centrifugal force, the air is quickly thrown to the edge of the impeller, so that a negative pressure area is formed in the center of the impeller, and the external air enters from the air inlet continuously under the action of the pressure difference. The air thrown to the edge of the impeller is discharged from the air outlet in an orderly manner under the guidance of the casing, thus forming a stable airflow.
Centrifugal fans have significant advantages. In terms of performance, they can generate higher wind pressure, which enables them to ensure effective air delivery in the face of complex ventilation duct systems or ventilation environments with greater resistance. In terms of application areas, in industrial production, centrifugal fans can be used in various large workshops to exhaust harmful gases, smoke, dust, etc., to ensure the safety of workers' working environment; in air-conditioning systems, they are key components for air circulation and heat exchange, which can evenly distribute indoor temperature; in the field of electronic equipment, centrifugal fans can efficiently dissipate heat for electronic components with severe heat generation, ensuring stable operation of equipment.
However, centrifugal fans are not perfect. They are relatively large in size, which is a challenge for some occasions with limited installation space. Moreover, during operation, especially at high speeds, certain noise will be generated, and sound insulation and noise reduction measures need to be taken to reduce their impact on the environment.
Centrifugal fans play an irreplaceable role in many fields with their unique working principles and advantages, and their performance is constantly being optimized with the continuous development of technology.
